Hyderabad, August 11: The Hyderabad Police’s Commissioner Task Force, along with Shamshabad Zone and Rajendra Nagar police, has successfully dismantled a gang that deceived people by claiming to have knowledge of hidden treasures. Four suspects have been arrested, and authorities recovered vehicles, mobile phones, fake gold coins, coal, and religious items from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Munawwar alias Munna (36), Syed Ali Ashraf (40), Mohammad Haji (25), and Mohammad Salman (29). All suspects are residents of Hyderabad and the Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
According to police reports, the main accused, Munawwar, previously worked in car painting and denting. Due to a decline in income, he conspired with his associates to defraud people. The gang members convinced unsuspecting victims that they possessed special information about treasures buried underground.
To execute their scam, the accused would dig at victims’ homes or properties. They would then produce bags of coal and fake gold-plated coins that they had hidden beforehand. They misled victims into believing that the coal would transform into gold after some time, allowing them to escape before the victims realized they had been conned.
Investigations revealed that the gang had defrauded at least 11 individuals across various areas in Hyderabad, amassing nearly one crore rupees.
Police seized two cars, an auto-rickshaw, two motorcycles, four mobile phones, 25 fake gold coins, six kilograms of coal, four kilograms of soil, and religious materials from the suspects. Records indicate that the main accused, Munawwar, has a prior fraud case registered against him at the Begum Bazaar police station.
A case has been filed under sections 318(4), 351(2), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at Rajendra Nagar police station, and an investigation has commenced.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against claims of hidden treasures, secret funds, or miraculous wealth acquisition. They advised anyone witnessing such activities to report them to the police immediately.
This operation was led by Inspector K. Ravi of the Task Force, with support from Sub-Inspector K. Mansoor Ali, Narsing Rao, S. Sheshu, and their team, alongside the Rajendra Nagar police.
