Bengaluru, August 12: A tragic accident occurred at the Kanteerava Studio underpass construction site in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two construction workers and injuries to three others.
The incident happened when a section of soil collapsed at the site. The turnkey project is being executed by PJ B Engineers Private Limited, a contractor appointed by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA).
The deceased workers have been identified as Sonaram from Odisha and Parimal Bashak from West Bengal. The injured include Sadanand from Jharkhand, Imriyas from Chhattisgarh, and Sunil Kalkor from Jharkhand.
In response to the incident, the BDA Chairman has ordered an independent investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The investigation committee will include a retired judge and a retired chief engineer, who have been instructed to submit their report within 45 days.
According to the BDA, the soil collapse affected five workers present at the site. The authority is coordinating with the Labor Department and the local district administration to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased workers’ bodies to their hometowns.
The injured workers are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The BDA has assured that they will receive the best possible care, and the authority will cover their medical expenses. Additionally, necessary support will be provided to the injured workers and their families.
As part of relief measures, the BDA has announced a compensation of ₹8 lakh each for the families of the deceased workers.
The BDA expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and stated that essential steps are being taken following the incident. The Kanteerava Studio underpass project is a turnkey initiative, where the contractor is responsible for the design, construction, and commissioning of the entire project before handing it over to the client upon completion.
