Quetta, May 7: A prominent human rights organization has expressed deep concern over the increasing atrocities against Baloch citizens by Pakistan’s security forces. Between January and April of this year, reports of targeted killings and the subsequent disposal of mutilated bodies have emerged from Balochistan.
In its report titled “Kill and Dump Policy in Balochistan,” the Baloch Unity Committee (BUC) documented 43 victims identified by their families in 2026. Additionally, 21 cases of targeted killings were recorded.
The organization noted that these figures are likely underreported. They do not include individuals whose identities remain unknown, those quietly buried, or victims whose bodies were secretly handed over to families for immediate burial. The report also excludes cases involving fake encounters, unidentified corpses, and other forms of extrajudicial killings.
According to the report, the first half of 2025 saw 47 “kill and dump” incidents and 32 targeted killings, including minors. The BUC emphasized that this troubling trend has persisted for two decades but has intensified in both frequency and severity since the beginning of 2026.
The report highlighted that repeated killings in districts such as Awaran, Gwadar, Kech, Kharan, Panjgur, and Quetta suggest these incidents follow a specific pattern.
Furthermore, the report pointed out the lack of judicial action against arbitrary arrests and “kill and dump” cases. Judges and officials who have spoken out against these human rights violations have faced pressure and repercussions.
The organization accused Pakistan’s judiciary, from higher courts to lower anti-terrorism courts, of eroding public trust and exhibiting bias in their rulings. The BUC called for stronger laws to criminalize enforced disappearances and emphasized the need for judicial oversight of security agencies. They also advocated for the establishment of independent investigative bodies with the assistance of UN experts or international investigators to ensure impartial inquiries.
In conclusion, the organization urged the United Nations Human Rights Council, special rapporteurs, and other international bodies to exert pressure on Pakistan to ensure humane treatment of the people in Balochistan.
