Mumbai, June 1: In Bollywood, many artists carve their unique identities through struggle and hard work. Among them is the renowned composer and singer Wajid Khan. Along with his brother Sajid, Wajid contributed numerous hit songs to the Hindi film industry. However, before making a name in the music world, he faced several challenges.
A pivotal moment in his life changed his perspective and ultimately inspired him to become a prominent musician. Wajid Khan passed away on June 1, 2020, but he remains alive in the hearts of fans through his memorable songs.
Born on October 7, 1977, Wajid grew up in a family immersed in music. His father, Sharafat Ali Khan, was a well-known tabla player, and other family members were also involved in music. This environment naturally drew Wajid toward music from a young age, particularly his love for playing the guitar. He began learning the intricacies of music early on.
In the initial days of their music careers, Wajid and Sajid worked with other composers. During this time, a significant incident altered the course of their lives. While playing guitar in a recording studio, Wajid hit a wrong note, and he was unjustly blamed for it. Despite not being at fault, he faced public reprimand. His father, present at the studio, was moved to tears witnessing his son’s humiliation. This incident deeply affected Wajid, prompting him and Sajid to resolve that they would no longer play instruments for others but would create their own music and establish their identity.
With determination, the brothers embarked on their journey to fulfill their dreams. Their fortunes changed when they got the opportunity to compose music for Salman Khan’s film “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya.” The song “Teri Jawani Badi Mast Mast Hai” became a massive hit, catapulting the Sajid-Wajid duo to fame in Bollywood. From that point on, they never looked back.
Their collaboration with Salman Khan proved particularly successful. Their music was well-received in films like “Tumko Na Bhool Payenge,” “Gharv,” “Partner,” “Wanted,” and “Dabangg.” Wajid was not only a composer but also a talented singer, lending his voice to several hit tracks, including “Mera Hi Jalwa” and “Hamka Peeni Hai.”
In 2011, the Sajid-Wajid duo received the prestigious Filmfare Award for their music in the film “Dabangg.” They also garnered numerous other awards and accolades throughout their careers.
Despite facing health challenges, including a long battle with kidney disease, Wajid remained dedicated to his music. He continued to work passionately until the end of his life.
