Hindustan Zinc Tops Safety Rankings at Intra-Zonal Mine Rescue Competition 2025

Ajmer, October 14 (Daily Kiran): Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a Vedanta Group company and India’s largest integrated zinc producer, successfully hosted the Intra-Zonal Mine Rescue Competition 2025 at its Rampura Agucha Mine under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), North-Western Zone. The event, designed to evaluate rescue teams’ skills, teamwork, and emergency response capabilities, concluded with Hindustan Zinc’s Rampura Agucha men’s team emerging as the overall winner.

The competition saw participation from 10 rescue teams, including two all-women teams, in various simulated underground rescue challenges.

The opening ceremony was held at the Rampura Agucha Rescue Room Training Centre, graced by Vinod Rajak, Director of Mines Safety (North-Western Zone), DGMS, Udaipur, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included K. Ravinder, Dr. I. Satyanarayan, and Tom Mathews, along with other senior DGMS officials.

Testing Real-Life Emergency Skills

During the two-day competition, teams participated in live rescue relays, first aid drills, statutory tests, and underground simulations designed to replicate real-life mining emergencies. The closing ceremony at the Executive Club, Zinc Colony, Rampura Agucha, was attended by R.T. Mandekar, Deputy Director General (Mines Safety), DGMS, North-Western Zone, as the Chief Guest, along with Kishore Kumar S. (COO, Hindustan Zinc), Ramamurari (IBU CEO, Rampura Agucha), and senior DGMS officials.

The competition included six major events—march past, theory test, first aid, statutory test, rescue relay, and the crucial underground rescue and recovery event.

A total of 25 awards were presented across different categories. The Rampura Agucha men’s team claimed the overall championship, while Rajpura Dariba Mine secured the runner-up position. The contest for the second runner-up title saw a close competition between Hindustan Copper Limited and the Rampura Agucha women’s team.
