
New Delhi, June 8: In a thrilling display of marksmanship, Himanshu Dhillon from Haryana triumphed in the men’s 10-meter air rifle final at the T4 National Selection Trials held at the Trishul Shooting Range in Dehradun. He narrowly defeated Parth Rakesh Mane from Maharashtra with a final shot that secured his victory. Meanwhile, Diksha Vaish from Uttar Pradesh and Suraj Sharma from Madhya Pradesh also claimed wins in their respective events.
In the men’s air rifle final, Himanshu was trailing Parth by 0.2 points before the 24th and final shot. With a score of 10.6 on his last shot compared to Parth’s 10.3, Himanshu clinched the win with a total score of 252.2. Parth Makhija from Delhi took home the bronze medal.
In the women’s air rifle event, Diksha started strong and maintained her lead through the second five-shot series. Despite tough competition, she defeated Aashi Choukse by 1.2 points, finishing with a score of 252.7. Sonam Uttam Maskar from the Railways secured the bronze medal.
In the third final of the day, Suraj Sharma emerged victorious in the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol (RFP) event, scoring 29 points. Ankur Goyal from Uttarakhand followed closely with 27 points, while Bhavesh Shekhawat finished third with 25 hits. Notably, Parth topped the national rankings, with Himanshu in second place.
Following the T4 women’s air rifle event, Sonam Maskar gained significant ground, moving to second place behind Elavenil Valarivan. In the men’s RFP rankings, experienced Navy shooter Omkar Singh ranked second, just behind Anish.
The T4 rifle and pistol trials are crucial as they prepare athletes for the upcoming Asian Games, where 15 male and 15 female shooters will compete in 28 shooting events. The shotgun team of 12 members has already been announced, while the rifle and pistol teams will be finalized after these trials.
