High Skill Level Essential for Success in T10 Cricket, Says Robin Singh

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Former Indian cricketer and team director of the Royal Desert Champions, Robin Singh, has stated that achieving success in T10 cricket requires players to possess a very high level of skill.

The challenges of T20 cricket have already tested some traditional batsmen, as the playing technique differs significantly from the Test format. However, a league consisting of 60 balls presents an entirely different challenge for batsmen, who must adopt an aggressive approach from the very first ball.

In an exclusive interview, Robin explained how T10 cricket differs from T20. He remarked, “T10 is somewhat akin to playing the last 10 overs or the powerplay of a T20 match. In T10, you need to take many more risks. Therefore, your skill level must be exceptionally high. Those who are confident in their skills are the ones who succeed. If you doubt yourself, you will struggle in T10.”

Meanwhile, Robin Singh has already secured players such as Nicholas Pooran, Phil Salt, and Sherfane Rutherford for the Royal Desert Champions. During the player draft, he also included talents like Muhammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, and Maheesh Theekshana in the team.

Robin Singh noted that their approach to the draft was in line with what is essential for selecting a team in a short-format tournament like T10. He stated, “Yes, I believe we got about 80 percent of what we wanted from the draft. Drafts can always be a bit tricky. You never really know who you will get, as it depends on previous picks and how others build their teams.”

He added, “Therefore, a bit of luck is needed for what you want, but you also need a strategy. If you don’t get ‘X,’ you should try to acquire ‘Y’ to compensate. You build your team keeping those factors in mind.”

Robin further emphasized the importance of selecting a balanced team. He said, “The most crucial aspect is to choose experienced cricketers who can effectively use their skills. This format is very fast-paced, leaving no room for relaxation. As soon as you step onto the field, you must be ready for action; there are no ‘sighters’ or ‘free deliveries.’ You need to be fully prepared and precise at all times.”
