Mira Andreeva Advances to China Open Final, Secures World No. 3 Ranking

Beijing, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Russian tennis sensation Mira Andreeva triumphed over Czech player Nikola Bartunkova in the semifinals of the China Open on Saturday, winning 6-2, 6-2. This victory marks Andreeva’s first appearance in the final of the prestigious tournament.

In a match that lasted just 1 hour and 14 minutes, Andreeva secured her spot in the final, making it her fourth WTA 1000 final overall and her first in Beijing. Following this match, she is poised to rise two spots in the world rankings, moving from World No. 5 to No. 3 in the upcoming update.

Andreeva is set to compete in her fifth final of the season on Sunday. With this achievement, she joins fellow players Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jessica Pegula for the most final appearances on the WTA Tour in 2026. This win also marks her 50th victory of the season, tying her with Pegula for the most match wins this year.

After her victory, Andreeva expressed her joy and excitement to the media. “I’m very happy and excited to reach the final. I think I played really well today. I’m pleased with how I performed. Of course, Nikola is a tough opponent. We had a hard-fought match at the US Open, but I’m thrilled to have won today,” she said.

Andreeva revealed that she and her team have been diligently working on various aspects of her game. She has also secured a spot in the WTA Finals at the end of the season.

“We are focusing a lot on our returns. In every practice session, we try to improve everything, but we also work on returns. Even if the opponent serves well, you need to try to apply some pressure on their serve. Our hard work is gradually paying off, and I’m very happy with these results. Conchita will be pleased as well, as this was her initiative. We will just keep improving,” she added.
