Heavy Traffic in Rishikesh Due to Chardham Yatra and Rising Tourist Numbers

Rishikesh, June 8: The Chardham Yatra and an influx of weekend tourists have led to significant congestion in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The local administration is on high alert as the pressure on travel arrangements increases. Additional police forces have been deployed at various locations, and traffic diversions have been implemented.

Circle Officer Tushar Bora reported a substantial rise in registrations for the Chardham Yatra compared to last year, both online and offline. He noted a remarkable increase in public participation, which has intensified the strain on travel arrangements. However, efforts are ongoing to maintain order with the cooperation of local residents and the administration.

The situation becomes even more challenging during weekends. As pilgrims arrive for the Chardham Yatra, a large number of weekend tourists from Delhi, NCR, and Haryana also flock to the area. This surge leads to heightened traffic pressure every Saturday and Sunday. On Saturdays, traffic jams were reported in several areas, with vehicles moving slowly in a rotational manner, causing intermittent stoppages.

Tushar Bora indicated that traffic pressure remained high from Sunday morning. To manage this, additional teams from the police, Home Guard, and CPU have been deployed. Local police are also actively present on the roads, working diligently to manage traffic flow.

He urged travelers to use only the designated parking areas established by the administration and to avoid parking their vehicles haphazardly on the streets. He emphasized that even a single improperly parked vehicle can lead to long traffic jams, disrupting the entire system. Therefore, cooperation from travelers is crucial.

Bora stressed that the Chardham Yatra is a significant religious pilgrimage, and its smooth operation is only possible through collaboration between the administration and the public. He appealed to all pilgrims and tourists to remain patient, adhere to regulations, and cooperate fully with the police to ensure a safe and organized journey.
