Heavy Rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Cause Fatalities and Damage

Islamabad, May 20: Heavy rains and storms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, have resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left 11 others injured. According to reports from the daily newspaper ‘The Express Tribune’, the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) confirmed that the fatalities occurred in Mardan due to rain-related incidents, while the injured individuals hail from Battagram, Swat, and Mardan regions.

The report indicates that the severe rainfall has also caused damage to homes and infrastructure across several areas. In Shangla, three houses were completely destroyed, and one house in Battagram collapsed entirely. Additionally, 27 houses suffered partial damage, including five homes in Torghar, two in Swat, one in Upper Dir, and one in Mardan. A school in Shangla also sustained damage.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted dust storms and intermittent rain in the northern parts of the country until May 23.

Earlier in April, rain-related incidents in Peshawar, Mohmand, and Nowshera districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in three deaths and 14 injuries. Bilal Ahmed Faizi, a spokesperson for ‘Rescue 1122’, reported that a child died and two others were injured when a roof collapsed in the Mattani area of Peshawar. He also noted that three members of the same family were injured in a rain-related incident in Mohmand district.

In another incident, five people were injured when a room collapsed due to rain in the Sara Khawa area of Bajaur, resulting in one fatality. Authorities reported that four individuals were injured when a roof collapsed in the Dawazai Dawat Kor area of Mohmand district.

Furthermore, the rains have led to the death of livestock and the destruction of standing crops in various locations, causing significant economic losses for the affected communities.
