Chennai, August 18: Heavy rainfall is anticipated in the Chengalpattu and Viluppuram districts of Tamil Nadu due to a weak atmospheric circulation in the coastal areas. This information was provided by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai.
According to the latest bulletin from the weather department, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in several areas of Chengalpattu and Viluppuram districts due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Moderate rainfall is also expected in parts of the districts adjacent to the Western Ghats and northern coastal Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday, heavy rain is forecasted for Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Viluppuram, and Nilgiri. The bulletin indicates that light rain may continue in the northern coastal areas and districts near the Western Ghats on Wednesday and Thursday.
This forecast brings some relief to the coastal regions, where the weather has been humid and unstable. However, the weather department has indicated that despite rainfall in other areas, temperatures in the interior regions of the state may remain above normal.
For the next four days, maximum temperatures in northern interior districts of Tamil Nadu could be up to four degrees Celsius higher than normal. The high temperatures combined with humidity may lead to discomfort in several areas.
In Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy throughout the day. Rain with thunder may occur in some parts of the city during the evening or night.
While significant rainfall is not anticipated in the capital on Tuesday, conditions are expected to improve for heavy rain on Wednesday.
The weather department has advised the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms, especially in areas prone to lightning and temporary flooding. If heavy rain occurs during peak evening hours, drivers may face reduced visibility and slippery roads.
The weak circulation in the coastal area is affecting local weather patterns and drawing moisture towards the northern and western parts of Tamil Nadu.
