Srinagar, August 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a case involving an attempt to influence a Crime Branch investigation. The chargesheet was submitted against Ghulam Ahmad Gani, a resident of Mirgund in Budgam district, in the court of the Special Judge for Anti-Corruption in Srinagar.
Ghulam Ahmad Gani is accused of committing a cognizable offense under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 228 and 229 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation was initiated based on a written complaint alleging that the accused transferred ₹10,000 to the bank account of an investigating officer, purportedly to bribe and influence the investigation.
Upon receiving the complaint, an inquiry was ordered. During the investigation, the allegations were meticulously examined, and relevant evidence was gathered. The investigation confirmed the accused’s involvement in the alleged incident, leading to the preparation of the chargesheet, which has now been presented to the court for judicial determination.
The EOW has appealed to the public, advising them not to offer bribes to any government employee for obtaining services or benefits. Any demands for bribes or involvement in corrupt activities should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities for necessary legal action. Public cooperation and timely reporting are essential to curb corruption and promote transparency and accountability.
Earlier, on August 8, the EOW took action in another case based on a joint written complaint from several residents of Doda district. The complainants alleged that Bilal Ahmad, a resident of the Dachhan area of Kishtwar, currently living in Dubai, had deceived them by promising visas and jobs in Dubai.
