Heatwave Alert Issued for Rajasthan Starting May 9

Jaipur, May 6: The recent rainfall in Rajasthan has provided temporary relief, but this respite is not expected to last long. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that rainfall activities will weaken over the next three to four days, leading to a temperature increase of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Notably, a heatwave is anticipated to return, particularly in western Rajasthan, starting May 9.

In the last 24 hours, several districts in the state experienced strong winds and rainfall due to a western disturbance, offering some relief from the intense heat. Shahpura in Jaipur recorded the highest rainfall at 68 mm, while the rural area of Sikar saw 31 mm.

According to the Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain with thunderstorm activity is expected on Wednesday in parts of Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur, and Jaipur divisions. However, this relief will be short-lived, as dry weather is forecasted to return in the coming days.

On Tuesday evening, the town of Samdari in Barmer district experienced heavy rain and hail for about half an hour. Similarly, Udaipur saw a sudden change in weather, with strong winds and rain disrupting daily life. Power supply was affected in several areas, and winds reached speeds of 50 km/h, providing a break from the heat.

Over the past two days, maximum temperatures have dropped by about 3 degrees, while minimum temperatures fell by 7 degrees, bringing them below normal levels. The day began with mild warmth, but clouds gathered in the afternoon, leading to heavy rain by evening, which cooled the atmosphere.

The Meteorological Department indicates that as the western disturbance weakens, most parts of the state will experience dry weather. However, light rain or thunderstorms may still occur in some areas of northeastern Rajasthan.

Between May 8 and 11, maximum temperatures in the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions could reach 45 to 46 degrees Celsius, raising concerns about the resurgence of extreme heat and heatwave conditions in the region.
