Kolkata, June 16: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the egg-throwing incident involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and legislator Kunal Ghosh. An FIR has been filed at the Kalighat police station regarding this matter.
The police registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 189(2), 190, 125(A), 115(2), and 133. According to police reports, around 6:15 PM on Monday, the accused, identified as Chandan and several unidentified individuals, gathered unlawfully near 30B Harish Chatterjee Street, Kolkata-25. This crowd deliberately threw eggs at Kunal Ghosh, intending to cause him physical harm and publicly humiliate him.
Kunal Ghosh lodged a complaint at the Kalighat police station. Acting promptly on the complaint, police arrested the main accused, Chandan, and Ravi Kayla, near the incident site, while the search for other suspects continues.
The Kalighat police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. They are collecting CCTV footage, witness statements, and other evidence. Following the incident, the TMC labeled it a political conspiracy, alleging that opposition forces aimed to publicly disgrace the legislator.
It is noteworthy that the egg was thrown at Kunal Ghosh while he was speaking to the media outside the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. After the incident, Ghosh criticized the government for serious security lapses. He mentioned that he was at Banerjee’s home for a meeting with senior leaders. As he was leaving, the media stopped him for questions, during which one of the two young men threw an egg at him.
Ghosh stated that he turned his face at the last moment, preventing the egg from hitting his glasses or eyes, thus avoiding a serious injury. He also pointed out that he was standing without any security, making him an easy target.
