Noida, April 20: The National Capital Region (NCR) is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures, with maximum readings exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this trend is expected to continue in the coming days.
A yellow alert for a heat wave has been issued, urging residents to remain vigilant. The IMD forecasts that on April 20 and 21, maximum temperatures will hover around 41 degrees, with minimums around 21 degrees. The skies are expected to be mostly clear, and no severe warnings have been issued for these days.
However, starting April 22, the weather is predicted to become even hotter. Temperatures could reach 42 degrees during the day, with a persistent heat wave effect. The IMD warns of the possibility of heat conditions in the morning, afternoon, and evening on April 22. The situation is not expected to improve on April 23 and 24, with maximum temperatures remaining around 42 degrees and minimums at 23 degrees.
On April 24, humidity levels are projected to rise to 70%, potentially increasing discomfort for residents. The weather department advises avoiding outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and staying hydrated.
In addition to the heat, air quality in the NCR is becoming increasingly concerning. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and other agencies indicate that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several areas of Delhi has reached moderate to poor levels.
For instance, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 282, Ashok Vihar at 226, and Bawana at 218. In Aya Nagar, the AQI was 169, which falls within the moderate range. In Noida, Sector 1 reported an AQI of 233, Sector 116 at 209, Sector 125 at 185, and Sector 62 at 182. Ghaziabad is facing even worse conditions, with an AQI of 321 in Loni and 317 in Ved Vihar-Loni, both categorized as ‘very poor.’ Additionally, Govindpuram recorded 257 and Vasundhara 234 on the AQI scale.
Experts suggest that rising temperatures and stagnant air are causing pollutants to accumulate in the atmosphere, deteriorating air quality. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues, are advised to take extra precautions. The coming days in the NCR will pose challenges related to both heat and pollution. Authorities and health departments are urging residents to follow necessary precautions and adhere to guidelines issued by the weather department.
