Karachi, August 4: In a tragic incident in Karachi, Pakistan, unidentified assailants opened fire on a police officer near the Jamali Bridge. Local media reported on Tuesday that the attack resulted in the death of one police officer.
According to police, armed individuals targeted a constable on duty and his partner, injuring the constable. The Express Tribune reported that the officer succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital, while his partner remained unharmed.
Following the attack, police arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation to locate the assailants.
This incident occurred amid a rise in attacks targeting law enforcement personnel in Pakistan, particularly in the bordering provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On August 2, a suicide bombing at the Kabal police station in Swat district resulted in the deaths of 17 individuals, including seven police officers. According to Sama TV, 13 injured officers are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
The Dawn newspaper reported that the bombing took place near the police station’s entrance, where hundreds had gathered for a public demonstration at Kabal Chowk.
District Police Officer Umar Khan stated that the suicide bomber detonated himself when police attempted to stop him at the station’s entry gate. The security forces have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
Authorities noted that on July 22, a police officer was shot by unknown assailants in the Sarwekai area of Upper South Waziristan district. Reports indicate that the constable was en route to his official duty when he was attacked near a drain in the Mole Khan Sarai area, dying before medical assistance could arrive.
After the incident, police and other officers gathered evidence at the scene and initiated a search operation to apprehend the criminals. Police officials stated that multiple angles are being investigated.
