Ranchi, March 8: In a shocking incident on Saturday night, two assailants opened fire inside the Titos Restaurant located in the Airport police jurisdiction of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. The attack resulted in the death of a young waiter identified as Manish Gop.
Reports indicate that the attackers aimed to kill the restaurant owner, Rajkumar Gop, who had previously received an extortion threat for one crore rupees from gangster Prince Khan on December 25. Authorities suspect that Khan’s gang may be behind this violent act. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.
Footage shows one suspect waiting on a motorcycle while the other entered the restaurant and began shooting. The gunman fired approximately four rounds, one of which struck Manish Gop in the abdomen, leaving him critically injured. Panic ensued inside the restaurant as the shooting unfolded.
After executing the attack, the assailants quickly fled the scene on their motorcycle. Restaurant staff rushed the injured Manish Gop to Raj Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. Upon receiving news of the incident, City SP Paras Rana, along with Hatiya DSP and other police officials, arrived at the scene to investigate. Police recovered three bullet casings during their examination.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the restaurant and nearby areas to identify the attackers. A city-wide checking campaign has been intensified, and raids are being conducted in search of suspects, although no arrests had been reported by late night.
Rajkumar Gop expressed concerns that the attackers were likely targeting him. He revealed that he had filed complaints with local police and senior officials after receiving the extortion demand last December, which led to a case being registered at the Airport police station.
According to Rajkumar Gop, he was provided police protection for a time following the extortion complaint, but the bodyguard was later withdrawn. He stated that since the demand for extortion, he has received continuous threats in the form of photos and videos. The police are currently investigating the case, considering the extortion angle as a significant factor.
