Gunfire Erupts During White House Correspondents Dinner, President Trump Evacuated Safely

Washington, April 26: A shooting incident occurred at the White House during the annual Correspondents’ Dinner, attended by President Donald Trump and several senior U.S. officials. As gunfire erupted, President Trump and other officials were swiftly evacuated from the event on Saturday night. Fortunately, there are no immediate reports of injuries. The President has since responded to the situation.

Following the incident, Trump shared an update on social media, confirming that the situation was under control and praising the quick response of security agencies. He stated that a suspect had been apprehended and that any decisions regarding the continuation of the event would be made by law enforcement authorities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “It was a wonderful evening in D.C. The Secret Service and law enforcement did an excellent job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have advised that we continue the show, but law enforcement will ultimately decide. They will make a decision soon.”

In another post, the President mentioned, “Law enforcement has requested that we leave the area as per protocol, which we are doing immediately. I will hold a press conference from the White House briefing room in 30 minutes. The First Lady, Vice President, and all cabinet members are perfectly fine. We will talk to you in half an hour. I have spoken to all representatives in charge of the event, and we will reschedule within 30 days.”

The sound of gunfire caused panic among attendees. Secret Service agents and security personnel rushed into the banquet hall, while guests hid under tables as security officers instructed them to duck down.

Many attendees reported hearing between five to eight gunshots. The hall, filled with hundreds of journalists, celebrities, and political figures awaiting President Trump’s speech, was quickly evacuated. National Guard personnel were deployed inside the venue, and attendees were escorted outside but not allowed to re-enter. Security in the surrounding area was heightened.

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact motive behind the incident. A law enforcement officer indicated that a shooter was involved, but further details were not immediately available.

Among those seated at the head table were Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and several cabinet members, all of whom are reported to be safe.

According to U.S. media outlet CNN, President Trump is secure, and another administration official confirmed that cabinet members were unharmed.

This dinner marked Trump’s first attendance at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association event as President. The gathering included journalists, political figures, celebrities, and international representatives, along with entertainment segments like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and officials are expected to provide more information once the situation is assessed.

Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin, who attended the dinner, stated that he did not see a shooter but described the chaos, saying, “I think a Secret Service agent threw me to the ground and over some other people, and people were screaming.”
