Gujarat Welcomes Commonwealth Sports Delegation for 2030 Games Preparations

Gandhinagar, April 8: The Commonwealth Sports delegation has arrived in Gujarat for the first time to assess preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030, set to take place in Ahmedabad. The team initiated its schedule after a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, signaling the launch of a comprehensive on-ground plan for the centenary edition of the event.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Patel expressed the state government’s full commitment to organizing the Commonwealth Games 2030 in a spectacular manner through teamwork. He stated, “This effort will be guided by the time-bound, quality, and impactful plan outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Patel assured the visiting officials and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that the state government would provide all necessary infrastructure and facilities on time to ensure the successful execution of the Games.

Rukare described Gujarat’s hosting of the Games as a matter of pride and praised Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership and policies promoting sports. Both Rukare and Sadleir commended the warm welcome and hospitality extended by Gujarat.

The Commonwealth Sports leadership invited the Chief Minister to the upcoming Games, scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2 this year, to study the event’s planning and implementation policies. The Chief Minister accepted the invitation, confirming that a delegation from Gujarat would participate.

Rukare emphasized that the 2030 Games should showcase not only sporting excellence but also cultural diversity. He expressed a desire to collaborate with Indian stakeholders to deliver a successful centennial edition.

Led by Commonwealth Sports President Donald Rukare and CEO Katie Sadleir, a five-member team from the Indian Olympic Association (IOC) is visiting the state from April 8 to April 11. This marks the delegation’s first visit since Ahmedabad was awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The delegation will inspect proposed venues in Ahmedabad for the Commonwealth Games, including the Narendra Modi Stadium, EKA Arena, Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Vadodara Cricket Stadium, and the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar. This visit is part of the assessment for preparation and planning.

India was awarded the hosting rights during the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly held in Glasgow on November 26 last year. This will be the second time the event is hosted in the country since the Commonwealth Games were held in New Delhi in 2010.

The 2030 Games will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the inaugural edition held in 1930.
