Gandhinagar, August 3: Gujarat has reported 22 child fatalities linked to the Chandipura virus. Out of 184 suspected cases, 35 have been confirmed. The state’s health department is actively monitoring and treating patients across various districts.
Health Minister Praful Panseria provided updates on the outbreak, clarifying that not all suspected cases have tested positive for the virus. Currently, 184 suspected cases have emerged, with 35 confirmed cases of the Chandipura virus. Results for 11 samples are still pending.
The minister confirmed that 22 children have died due to the virus among the suspected cases. Seven patients confirmed with the virus are receiving treatment in government hospitals across the state, while six have been discharged after recovery.
According to the minister, specialized treatment is being provided to children admitted in government hospitals in Gandhinagar, Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district, Patan, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. Doctors are closely monitoring their conditions.
He noted that the infections are not confined to a single village or area but have been reported from various parts of Gujarat, prompting health teams to be active on the ground.
As a preventive measure, the department has advised residents to seal cracks in mud houses and walls. Additionally, widespread spraying of pesticides is being conducted in livestock areas.
All government and private children’s hospitals have been instructed to admit patients exhibiting symptoms of the virus into intensive care units (ICUs) equipped with oxygen and ventilators to ensure prompt treatment and prevent severe complications like multiple organ failure.
The minister stated that there is currently no specific vaccine or medication available for the Chandipura virus. A dedicated team of doctors and researchers is working on scientific research to develop an effective vaccine and treatment.
Panseria urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid rumors, and cooperate with health department teams. He advised parents to repair cracks in mud houses and seek immediate medical attention at the nearest government district hospital if their children exhibit fever, vomiting, seizures, or any other severe symptoms.
Officials indicated that the health department is fully prepared since symptoms of the Chandipura virus have been detected in children under 15 years of age. Under the supervision of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, strict monitoring is being conducted across Gujarat, and necessary precautionary measures are being implemented.
