Gandhinagar, August 17: In the digital age, incidents of cyber financial fraud are on the rise. Victims often face challenges in filing complaints due to the elusive nature of fraudsters. The lack of swift action allows criminals to continue their activities unchecked. To address these issues, the Gujarat Police’s Cyber Cell, under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, has initiated the registration of ‘Cyber Financial Fraud E-Zero FIRs’ through the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930.
This initiative allows victims to register cases via E-Zero FIRs, facilitating the recovery of stolen funds. One victim reported a cyber fraud incident where ₹2.3 crore was transferred from their bank to another fund. After filing a report with the Cyber Crime unit, they successfully recovered ₹1.63 crore with their assistance.
The initial hours of a financial fraud incident, known as the “golden hour,” are crucial. Therefore, the Gujarat Police registers E-Zero FIRs for financial fraud reported on 1930 and promptly transfers them to the relevant police station. Here, officers contact the victim and initiate an investigation with the bank involved. According to police officials, utilizing technology for rapid investigations increases the likelihood of recovering citizens’ funds.
Bipin Ahire, IG (Cyber Center of Excellence) in Gandhinagar, stated that once a Zero FIR is registered, it is forwarded to the local police station or Cyber Crime unit. The police team then calls the victim to gather necessary information for further action, allowing the investigation team to coordinate with the bank for swift resolution.
Cyber experts emphasize the need for citizens to remain vigilant against financial fraud via mobile and internet platforms. They also stress the importance of promptly reporting incidents to the helpline number 1930 without delay.
SP Sanjay Keshwala noted that Gujarat has established a system for directly registering online E-FIRs for all fraud complaints exceeding ₹10 lakh. Therefore, if you suspect you have fallen victim to financial or cyber fraud, it is essential to dial 1930 immediately.
This initiative by the Gujarat Police has provided significant relief to victims of cyber fraud. They no longer need to visit police stations to file complaints, as FIRs can now be registered from the comfort of their homes. This not only saves time and reduces the stress of victims but also increases the chances of recovering stolen funds and apprehending criminals swiftly.
