Ahmedabad, May 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasized the importance of “economic self-defense” in a speech delivered on May 10 in Hyderabad. He made seven significant appeals to empower India. In response, Gujarat’s Governor Acharya Devvrat convened an important meeting with officials and staff at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday, where several inspiring decisions were made.
The meeting included Principal Secretary Ashok Sharma, Home Director A.K. Joshi, ADC Shubham Kumar, and other officials.
Governor Acharya Devvrat announced that he would refrain from using helicopters and air travel for any state programs until the petroleum situation normalizes. Instead, he will utilize trains, ST buses, and public transport for state travel. Additionally, he directed that the Z-plus security convoy for the Governor be minimized to conserve fuel.
He instructed all Vice Chancellors of state universities to observe at least one day a week as “Combustion Engine Free Day.” Faculty and students are encouraged to prioritize bicycles, electric vehicles, or public transport over petrol and diesel vehicles. Furthermore, he urged all administrative officials and staff to cease the use of unnecessary vehicles for government work and to make every possible effort to save fuel.
This initiative has garnered participation from all officials and staff at Lok Bhavan.
The Governor stressed the importance of fuel conservation, adopting local products, embracing natural farming, and reducing cooking oil usage, as highlighted in PM Modi’s seven appeals. He noted that these steps are not only vital for economic savings but also essential for national security. Every drop of fuel saved and every rupee conserved will aid in making India self-reliant. He emphasized that if we make small sacrifices today, tomorrow’s India will be safer, more prosperous, and stronger.
Governor Acharya Devvrat expressed confidence that if citizens prioritize “Nation First” over personal conveniences, India will achieve greater economic self-reliance. He urged every citizen of Gujarat to participate in this noble endeavor of “economic self-defense.”
