Gandhinagar, March 28: The Gujarat government has strengthened district-level governance by appointing 21 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers as in-charge secretaries for various districts. This initiative aims to enhance coordination and decision-making within the district administration.
The appointments were announced in an order released by the government on Friday. The decision is part of a broader administrative exercise to ensure smooth implementation of policies and effective governance at the district level.
According to the order, these appointments were made in response to recent promotions, transfers, and retirements that created vacancies. The government aims to ensure that no district administration operates without oversight. Assigning senior officials to oversee districts will facilitate quicker decision-making and the efficient implementation of government policies.
Key appointments include M. Thenarasan for Ahmedabad, Shalini Agarwal for Surat, P. Swaroop for Vadodara, Vinod Rao for Gandhinagar, Raj Kumar Benival for Kutch, Aarti Kanwar for Jamnagar, Ranjith Kumar J. for Mehsana, and P. Bharti for Vav-Tharad. Other notable appointments are Avantika Singh Aulakh for Anand, Praveena D.K. for Banaskantha, Sandhya Bhullar for Bharuch, and Rajendra Kumar for Morbi.
These in-charge secretaries will be responsible for overseeing administrative operations and development projects in their respective districts, with a particular focus on taluka-level development. Government officials believe these appointments will strengthen inter-departmental coordination and expedite the implementation of government schemes on the ground.
Earlier this week, the state government also transferred IAS officers at the district level and appointed new collectors in three districts: P.B. Pandya for Jamnagar, G.H. Solanki for Surendranagar, and Ravindra Khatale for Gandhinagar. This administrative reshuffle comes ahead of the local body elections scheduled for next month, which will cover municipalities, municipal corporations, and panchayats across the state.
