
Gandhinagar, May 1: Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, held a one-on-one meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during his visit to the VGRC in Surat.
Wong noted that Singapore’s investments in Gujarat have been steadily increasing, with significant contributions to the GIFT City project. He expressed confidence that GIFT City will emerge as a hub for issuing USD-INR bonds in the coming years.
The High Commissioner shared his thoughts on establishing data centers in GIFT City, along with developing a sandbox for new AI fintech and data localization initiatives. He emphasized Singapore’s eagerness to collaborate with India, which is becoming a prominent data and financial hub.
Chief Minister Patel highlighted that the ease of doing business in the state has facilitated project establishment, attracting both domestic and international investors to Gujarat.
Wong congratulated the Chief Minister on the occasion of Gujarat Foundation Day during their meeting.
Attendees included Chief Secretary M.K. Das, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industry and Mines Department Mamta Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department T. Natarajan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjeev Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary Dr. Vikrant Pandey, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Ajay Kumar, and representatives from Singapore.
