Gujarat ATS Arrests Youth Planning Targeted Killings Inspired by Jaish-e-Mohammed

Navsari: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat foiled a major terror plot by arresting a radicalised youth involved in anti-national activities. The accused, Faizan Shaikh, 22, a native of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, was detained in Navsari city on January 27, 2026.

Faizan was working as a tailor in Jarkavad area of Navsari and residing near Aksa Masjid at the time of the arrest. The ATS conducted the operation following a tip-off and uncovered his links with Pakistan-based handler Mohammad Abu Bakar.

According to ATS Deputy SP Harsh Upadhyay, Faizan was spreading extremist ideology through social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram. Investigations revealed that he was inspired by banned outfits including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Al-Qaeda. His plan involved targeted killings of individuals accused of insulting the Prophet, spreading terror, and promoting the secession of Kashmir from India.

During the raid, several inflammatory materials were seized from Faizan’s mobile phone. These included images of the Red Fort with a black Islamic flag, maps depicting Kashmir as a separate entity, death threats against individuals in Delhi, and content promoting “Muslim areas” in Asia. Videos containing propaganda from Jaish-e-Mohammed, extremist speeches, and footage of terrorists like Farhatullah Ghori were also recovered. Faizan had marked certain individuals as targets in his chats.

The seizure also included a pistol with six live rounds and 29 pages of suspicious literature written in Arabic and Urdu. The documents contained calls for jihad under titles such as “Why Al-Qaeda?” During questioning, Faizan admitted to being in contact with Abu Bakar for six to seven months.

He further revealed joining a group three months ago that incited violence over alleged insults to the Prophet. Faizan purchased weapons six months prior in Uttar Pradesh, intending to carry out targeted killings to spread terror.

The ATS team, supported by officials from Navsari Police including PI and PSI ranks, has taken Faizan to the Special Operations Group (SOG) office for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to identify his associates and handlers.

This arrest highlights Gujarat ATS’s vigilant efforts to monitor and dismantle terror conspiracies, reinforcing the commitment to national security and counter-terrorism measures.
