Grassroots Football Club Honors Late Mentor with New Mascot

Mumbai, April 14: A grassroots football club in Kidderminster has decided to name its new mascot in memory of a beloved mentor and coach. Aaron Mills tragically passed away on January 3 due to a strain of meningitis not covered by his school vaccinations.

Wolverley Football Club will honor him by naming the mascot Swazza the Swan, following a heartfelt response from the local community to their call for suggestions.

Parents Deniz and Anthony Mills expressed their pride in having Aaron remembered this way. They revealed that Aaron was affectionately nicknamed “Swazza” by a teacher at King Charles I School, who was impressed by his football skills.

Anthony Mills shared, “The teacher watched Aaron play on the astro turf. He would score spectacular goals with a bit of curve and flair, which earned him the nickname.”

He added, “We were always proud of Aaron for the person he was. After his passing, we heard many stories about how he impacted others, and our pride only grew.”

Hospital staff diagnosed Aaron with Meningitis B shortly after he complained of headaches. He suffered a seizure at home and was rushed to the hospital. Despite undergoing brain surgery, his family received the devastating news that his condition was dire. He was pronounced dead days later.

A Fitting Tribute

Anthony Mills expressed, “I’m incredibly proud of him now, more than I ever was. For people to honor him like this keeps his memory alive for the right reasons.”

Gavin Jones, who founded the football club three years ago, described Aaron as a “valued” member. He told the BBC, “We received many name suggestions for our mascot, and then we got the shocking news about Aaron just after Christmas. He was always cheerful and full of life.”

Jones reflected on the tragedy, stating, “It was shocking to see someone so young and vibrant succumb to such a disease. Naming the mascot after him is a fitting tribute to a remarkable young man. It just felt right.”
