Grand Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple Attracts Throngs of Devotees

Ujjain, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain was alive with devotion on October 2, as it hosted the Bhasma Aarti during the sixth day of the Ashwin Krishna Paksha. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this spectacular event.

Early Friday morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets, following the permission of Lord Veerabhadra. After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were granted a glimpse of Baba Mahakal. The temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.

As the temple gates opened, the rituals began with a water offering to Lord Mahakal, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and water was offered with “Hari Om.” After the camphor Aarti, Baba adorned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti followed, accompanied by the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells.

Lord Mahakal was beautifully adorned with bhang, sandalwood, and ash. He appeared before the devotees in a tangible form, wearing a silver trident and crown. The temple priests conducted the Maha Aarti with reverence.

Many devotees queued from Wednesday night, eager to participate in the Bhasma Aarti. According to tradition, the Mahanirvani Akhada offers the Bhasma Aarti to Baba Mahakal. It is believed that after the offering of ash, Baba Mahakal reveals himself in a physical form. This event continues to draw a significant number of devotees to the sacred city of Ujjain.
