Government Launches Pharma Sahi Daam App to Combat Drug Overpricing

Ranchi, March 10: The Indian government has taken a significant step to empower consumers against drug overpricing. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has launched the ‘Pharma Sahi Daam’ mobile app. This app allows citizens to instantly check the correct prices of medications directly from their smartphones.

To effectively implement this initiative in Jharkhand, the Jharkhand State Pharmaceutical Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (JPMRU) has ramped up its activities.

According to a report from JPMRU, around 600 medications have been identified during market surveys as being sold at prices above the government-mandated rates. These cases have been reported to the NPPA to ensure action against the respective companies. This information was shared during a state-level awareness workshop held at the IPH auditorium in Ranchi, focusing on “The Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013 and the Pharma Sahi Daam App.”

Ajay Kumar Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, stated that this campaign will reach villages with the help of pharmacy students and chemist-druggist organizations.

Kumar Aman Bharti, Director of the NPPA, explained the drug pricing process and urged the public to utilize technology for awareness. Ritu Sahay, the Drug Director, clarified that no pharmaceutical company is allowed to sell drugs at prices exceeding the government-set rates. Companies found violating these regulations will not only be required to refund the excess charges but will also face strict penalties.
