New Delhi, April 23: Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the central government is closely monitoring the situation and providing timely updates to the public. In an official statement, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced that the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the country is fully under control.
According to the government, while the global crisis has impacted LPG supply, there is no shortage of cylinders anywhere in the country. On April 22, 2026, over 5.2 million domestic LPG cylinders were delivered. Online bookings have surged to 98%, with 94% of deliveries being authenticated through the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC), enhancing transparency.
The 5 kg cylinder scheme launched for migrant workers has received a positive response. Since April 1, 2026, more than 1.7 million small cylinders have been sold, supported by over 8,200 awareness camps across the nation.
The government is also promoting alternative fuels. Since March 2026, 518,000 new PNG connections have been activated, and 587,000 new consumers have registered. Additionally, over 41,000 individuals have switched from LPG to PNG.
The government clarified that despite the current global circumstances, the supply of domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG for transportation remains at 100%. The supply of commercial LPG is prioritized for sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and agriculture. The distribution of 5 kg cylinders for migrant workers has also been increased to provide relief.
To combat LPG black marketing and hoarding, the government has taken strict action. To date, over 150,000 raids have been conducted nationwide, resulting in the seizure of more than 66,000 cylinders. Additionally, over 1,100 FIRs have been filed, and 255 individuals have been arrested. Public sector oil companies have also fined 298 distributors and suspended the supply to 70.
The government has urged citizens not to panic-buy petrol, diesel, and LPG, assuring that adequate supplies are being maintained. People are advised to rely on official information and avoid rumors. LPG consumers are encouraged to book through digital platforms and consider using alternative fuels such as PNG or electric/induction stoves.
Recent incidents of firing on foreign vessels in the Persian Gulf, involving Indian sailors, have been reported. However, the government has confirmed that all Indian sailors are safe. So far, over 2,680 Indian sailors have been safely brought back to India, including 65 in the last 24 hours.
The government stated that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure fuel supply, maritime operations, and the safety of Indian citizens. The situation is being continuously monitored, with prompt actions taken as needed.
