Mumbai, April 23: Google has acknowledged a significant battery drain issue affecting Pixel phones following the March 2026 update, causing frustration among users.
Reports of rapid battery depletion began surfacing shortly after the update was released. Many users observed that their phones were losing charge much faster than usual, even when idle. What used to be a reliable full-day battery now struggles to last half a day.
Most complaints have emerged on platforms like Reddit, where users report overnight battery drops and devices struggling under normal usage. Some have attempted standard fixes, such as activating battery saver, adjusting settings, and even installing the April patch, but for many, these solutions have proven ineffective.
A Fix is Underway
Google has listed the issue on its Issue Tracker, marking it as a P1 priority, indicating that it is being treated with urgency.
Preliminary findings suggest that the problem may stem from affected devices failing to enter Deep Doze mode properly after the update. This mode is designed to limit background activity when the phone is not in use. If it does not activate as intended, the phone continues to perform unnecessary background tasks, leading to battery drain.
To gauge the extent of the issue, Android Authority conducted a reader poll. Approximately 75.9% of respondents reported increased battery drain after the recent update, while around 15% noted no significant changes. Although this is not a definitive measure, it, along with numerous online reports, indicates that the problem affects more than just a small group of users.
The issue appears to impact various models, with reports ranging from older Pixel 7 units to the latest Pixel 10 devices.
Currently, Google is investigating the matter, but no confirmed fix or timeline has been provided. A proper solution is expected to be delivered in a future update.
In the meantime, some users are exploring temporary workarounds, such as switching network modes or limiting background activity, though results have been mixed.
