Garuda Mudra Balances Vata, Reduces Mood Swings and Irritability

New Delhi: Changing lifestyles, irregular daily routines, and increasing mental stress are directly affecting people’s health. Symptoms like fatigue, lethargy, irritability, breathing difficulties, and blood circulation issues are becoming common even at a young age.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, many such problems arise due to an imbalance of energy in the body. Yoga and hand mudras are effective methods to improve health. One such simple yoga practice is Garuda Mudra, which is associated with the air element (Vata).

The Ministry explains that when the air element in the body becomes imbalanced, a person tends to feel sluggish, tires quickly, and experiences mental instability. Garuda Mudra helps balance this air element. Regular practice of this mudra increases physical activity and alertness.

For those who work sitting in offices all day, this mudra is particularly beneficial. It enhances blood circulation, providing relief from coldness, numbness, and weakness in the hands and feet. Improved blood flow ensures proper nutrition reaches body organs, making a person feel more energetic and active.

Garuda Mudra is also considered useful for women’s health. It helps reduce pain and cramps during menstruation by maintaining energy balance and easing discomfort. Additionally, this mudra provides benefits for mild respiratory issues.

Mental health also sees positive effects from practicing Garuda Mudra. Individuals experiencing frequent mood swings, irritability, or inner restlessness can find this mudra helpful. Regular practice calms the mind, reduces fear, and boosts self-confidence, resulting in a more balanced and disciplined state.

The Ministry of AYUSH recommends morning as the best time to practice Garuda Mudra because the mind is calm and concentration is easier. A daily practice of 20 to 30 minutes is considered sufficient.

To perform Garuda Mudra, sit comfortably with a straight spine and neck. Raise both palms upward, place the right hand over the left, and interlock the thumbs. Close your eyes and breathe normally while focusing attention inward. This posture brings peace to the mind and brain.
