Fugitive Arrested at Mumbai Airport After Five Years on the Run

Mumbai, June 19: The Gautam Buddh Nagar police achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting a wanted fugitive at Mumbai Airport. The accused had been evading law enforcement for the past five years. He faces serious charges, including fraud, forgery, extortion, threats, and violations of the IT Act. The suspect had been living in Saudi Arabia while the police actively sought his capture.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mudasir Zahoor, 38, son of Zahoor Ahmed, a resident of Aram Masjid, Khanyar, Jammu and Kashmir. He was apprehended on Thursday with the assistance of immigration officials as he returned to India from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The case dates back to 2021 when a woman filed a complaint at the Phase-3 police station.

The complainant reported that she had previously lodged a case against the accused in 2020 at the Naujheel police station in Mathura district for fraud, breach of trust, and forgery. It is alleged that Mudasir Zahoor and his associates threatened her with death to coerce her into withdrawing the case. The woman claimed that the accused hacked her mobile phone and demanded a ransom of 4 million rupees, threatening to circulate inappropriate images of her on social media.

Based on her complaint, various sections of the Indian Penal Code were invoked, along with Section 67-C of the IT Act. Throughout the investigation, the accused remained elusive. The police obtained a non-bailable warrant and initiated proceedings under Section 82 of the CrPC. The investigation revealed that the accused had fled to Saudi Arabia, prompting the police to issue a lookout circular to ensure his arrest.

As soon as he arrived at Mumbai Airport from Jeddah, immigration officials detained him due to the lookout notice. Upon receiving the information, the Sector-58 police team traveled to Mumbai, formally arrested the suspect, and brought him back to Noida.

Police officials stated that they are currently interrogating the accused and investigating other related facts. They are also trying to determine the activities he was involved in during his time on the run and whether any accomplices are involved in the case. Legal proceedings against the accused are ongoing.
