Aizawl, August 3: In a series of anti-drug operations in Mizoram, security forces have arrested four drug traffickers, including a Myanmar national, and seized narcotics valued at over ₹8.54 crore.
A senior police officer reported that the Mizoram Police’s Special Task Force (STF), with assistance from recruit constables, intercepted a truck traveling from Champhai to Aizawl. They recovered 10 bundles of methamphetamine pills weighing 9.796 kilograms, estimated to be worth ₹7.83 crore.
The truck was driven by Vanlalruatsaka (32), a resident of Champhai district, which shares an unguarded international border with Myanmar. He was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
In another operation, a team from the Special Narcotics Police Station discovered 241.21 grams of heroin concealed in 20 soap boxes in Jembawk. The drugs were allegedly being transported by two suspected traffickers, identified as Hussain Ahmed Laskar (23) and Noor Ahmed Laskar (34), both from Cachar district in Assam. They were arrested at the scene.
Police also seized a Mahindra Bolero pickup truck, which was reportedly used for transporting the narcotics.
In a third operation, the Mizoram Police STF, again aided by recruit constables, stopped a vehicle at the Khankawn check gate while it was en route to Aizawl. During the search, they found 10 cases of soap containing 118 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹23.60 lakh in the illegal market. The heroin was allegedly recovered from Vanlalmuana (27), a resident of Tahan in neighboring Myanmar, who was subsequently arrested.
The police have filed three separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and other relevant laws.
