Delhis LG Inaugurates DDA Sports Cup Hockey Tournament

New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi‘s Lieutenant Governor, T.S. Sandhu, officially opened the DDA Sports Cup Hockey Tournament on Thursday at the Yamuna Sports Complex. This event aligns with the Prime Minister’s ‘Fit India Movement,’ launched in 2019 to encourage individuals to integrate sports and fitness into their daily lives.

The inauguration was attended by Om Prakash Sharma, MLA from Vishwas Nagar, and N. Saravana Kumar, Vice Chairman of the DDA, along with senior officials, coaches, participating teams, and young hockey players.

In a related event, the Lieutenant Governor interacted with young athletes from the Delhi Sports School, learning about their training, aspirations, and experiences in sports. He emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent and creating the right environment for them to excel, aiming to elevate Delhi’s sports potential to new heights.

The DDA Sports Cup features 11 teams from Delhi-NCR, comprising around 220 players, coaches, and support staff. This tournament provides a platform for young hockey players to compete, gain match experience, and showcase their skills while promoting discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Scheduled from October 8 to 18, the tournament includes rest days on October 11 and 12, spanning a total of nine days. It will follow a league-cum-knockout format, featuring 20 matches, including 12 league games, four quarter-finals, two semi-finals, a third-place match, and the final on October 18.

The DDA plays a crucial role in providing sports facilities to the people of Delhi. Currently, it manages 19 sports complexes, four mini sports complexes, and three golf courses across the city. These facilities offer opportunities for residents, especially youth, to engage in sports, focus on fitness, and enhance their skills.
