Patna, August 20: Gopal Mandal, a former MLA from the Janata Dal (United), has made a significant announcement regarding his political future. He confirmed that he is set to join the Congress party. Mandal stated that the decision to join Congress was already planned for today; however, it was postponed due to the commemoration of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary. He mentioned that banners and posters supporting his move have already been displayed, and he will formally join the party after scheduling a meeting with Congress leadership.
Mandal expressed that his intention to join Congress has been made public through media channels, and he is fully prepared for the transition.
Explaining his departure from JD(U), Mandal leveled serious allegations against the party leadership. He emphasized his long-standing commitment to the party and his extensive knowledge of its history and organization. Despite his potential to continue as an MLA, he was denied his electoral symbol. Instead, the party chose to support Lalan Babu’s influence by giving the symbol to RJD’s Bulo Mandal, who was later appointed as a minister. Mandal questioned the future of the party if it continues to neglect its veteran workers and leaders.
He also reflected on his family’s historical ties to the political landscape since the formation of the Samata Party, reiterating his longstanding association with this political stream.
When asked about his past good relations with Nitish Kumar, Mandal remarked that while there was once a connection, it has since faded. Regarding the question of Kumar’s future as Bihar’s Chief Minister, Mandal asserted that Kumar will not return to that position, predicting that JD(U) is on a path toward decline.
On the ongoing political controversy surrounding “Vande Mataram,” Mandal stated that no one has issues with the anthem, and any opposition is deliberately stirred up to create discord.
Addressing the opposition’s continuous allegations against the government regarding law and order in Bihar, Mandal supported the opposition’s stance. He acknowledged that questioning the government’s actions is the opposition’s role, but criticized the government for its lack of effectiveness, labeling it as ‘inept’ and claiming that no work is being done at both the central and state levels.
Mandal also indicated his support for student protests, asserting that the youth’s voices cannot be ignored and that their demonstrations will persist.
