Former Diplomat Calls Shooting Incident at Trump Dinner a Major Security Breach

New Delhi, April 26: During a conversation with a news agency, former diplomats from India expressed their concerns regarding the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. They labeled the event a significant lapse in security. Former diplomat K.P. Fabian commented on the potential connection to Iran, stating that there are currently no indications of such links, but an investigation is warranted.

Fabian remarked, “Some facts are clear. First, it is a relief that neither President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, nor any guests were harmed. However, a security agent was injured, and the perpetrator has been apprehended. Second, President Trump displayed calm and restraint during the press conference. He appeared composed and not emotional.”

He further noted, “World leaders will certainly respond to this incident. The FBI is expected to investigate the suspect’s contacts, communications, and social media activity to determine if they were influenced or manipulated.”

Given the existing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, there are attempts to link this attack to Tehran. Fabian stated, “Currently, there are no signs of involvement from any foreign intelligence agency. President Trump is capable of viewing matters rationally without emotion, and he should reflect this perspective regarding the ongoing situation between the U.S. and Iran.”

Defense expert P.K. Sehgal described the incident as “very, very serious,” highlighting a significant security breach. However, he mentioned that the FBI and former FBI directors do not believe there was a major lapse. He noted that the suspect is a student from Southern University of California, one of America’s well-known universities. Conversations with professors revealed that he was a bright engineering student. A handgun, shotgun, pistol, and several knives were found in his possession, indicating thorough preparation for the operation. It is believed he checked into the hotel several days prior and smuggled the weapons inside.

Sehgal added, “Critics are labeling President Trump as one of the most unpopular U.S. presidents to date. Some Americans claim he promised before the election that he would never involve the U.S. in war and would act as a peacemaker, but the opposite has occurred.”

He pointed out that his own party is divided, NATO is reportedly against him, the European Union is opposed, and even some allied nations are critical.

Additionally, former diplomat Deepak Vohra commented on the incident, stating, “First and foremost, this was not a security breach at the White House. It occurred at a hotel named Hilton, located in Northwest Washington. Our embassy is very close to Washington D.C., where I used to work. I have dined at this hotel multiple times, and our delegations have stayed there. In the U.S., hotels do not have a system to clear out the entire hotel for large functions. The suspect checked in three to four days prior. He moved in and out, disassembling weapon parts that he later reassembled. On the day of the event, he arrived at the venue.”

Vohra continued, “I was informed that there was a sound in the metal detector, after which this individual fled. Security agencies apprehended him.”

He concluded, “At the same time, the U.S. Secret Service, responsible for the president’s security, has two units: one uniformed division and the other the Secret Service. The FBI does not provide security; it only investigates. The suspect attempted to fire a weapon but was unsuccessful.”
