Five Arrests in Jharkhand After Gang Rape of Minor Surfaces Months Later

A 14-year-old girl in Jharkhand was gang-raped. Police have registered a case under POCSO after the incident was reported by her family.

Chaibasa, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : A disturbing case of gang rape involving a 14-year-old girl has emerged in the Chiriyah area of Chaibasa, Jharkhand, four months after the incident occurred. The victim’s health deteriorated, prompting her family to investigate, leading to a police complaint filed on Monday.

According to the family’s report, the girl had gone to a nearby river in June for some work when she was allegedly approached by four young men. They forcibly took her to a secluded area and raped her. Following the assault, the perpetrators threatened her life and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone. Out of fear, the minor did not inform her family at that time.

Weeks later, another friend of the initial attackers reportedly sexually assaulted the girl. Due to ongoing threats, she felt unable to speak about her trauma. Recently, her health worsened, which led her family to inquire about the cause. Upon revealing her ordeal, they sought help from local villagers and subsequently reported the matter to the police.

David A. Dodray, the sub-divisional police officer of Manoharpur, confirmed that a case of gang rape has been registered. The victim is undergoing a medical examination, and further action will be taken based on the report. Special police teams have been formed to apprehend the five named suspects, with raids being conducted at potential hideouts.
