New Delhi, June 9: A fire erupted in a multi-story building in the Greater Kailash Part 1 enclave on Tuesday. According to officials, the blaze in the D24 building was likely caused by a short circuit in the air conditioning unit. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received the alarm at 11:36 AM and promptly dispatched two fire engines to the scene. After considerable effort, the fire was brought under control. An official stated, “No lives were lost, and everyone was safely evacuated.” Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway, with further updates expected.
This incident occurred just days after a devastating fire at a B&B in Malviya Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of 22 people, including 13 foreign nationals, and left many others injured. Following that tragedy, police registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including involuntary manslaughter, causing damage by fire, endangering life by negligence, causing grievous hurt by negligence, property damage, and negligence related to fire safety.
So far, police have arrested the hotel owner, Lovkesh Bajaj, and the chef, Keshav Negi. Additionally, the hotel manager, Jai Mishra, surrendered to the court on Monday. Authorities revealed that the hotel was only permitted to operate six rooms, yet it was functioning with over 20 rooms.
Moreover, officials indicated that the hotel had allegedly been operating for seven to eight years without the necessary ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the Delhi Fire Service. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Delhi administration has initiated strict action against violations of safety regulations throughout the city. A forensic investigation is also in progress, with investigators reportedly gathering evidence. Attention is being focused on whether negligence, regulatory violations, or other factors contributed to this fatal fire.
