
Srinagar, June 19: A fire broke out late Thursday night at a cement factory located in the outskirts of Khonmoh, injuring seven workers. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition, while the other six are receiving treatment at a local hospital. Following the incident, police and administrative officials arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.
According to reports, the accident occurred while workers were engaged in their regular tasks at the factory. Preliminary investigations indicate that a sudden fire erupted in the factory’s chimney, causing panic among the workers present. Seven workers suffered burns due to the flames and intense heat.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the factory management and rescue teams promptly launched a rescue operation. All injured workers were evacuated and transported to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. Hospital administration confirmed that the injured are being treated in the emergency and burn care units, where a team of specialist doctors is monitoring their conditions.
A police officer stated that treatment for all seven injured workers is ongoing. He mentioned that one worker is severely burned and remains in critical condition, while the other six are reported to be stable. Doctors are closely observing their health status.
Hospital sources indicate that the critically injured worker is receiving advanced medical care, while the other injured workers are also undergoing necessary treatment. The hospital administration is regularly updating the families about the patients’ conditions.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident and have commenced an investigation. Officials revealed that a special team has been formed to ascertain the actual causes of the accident. The investigation will also assess whether safety standards and mandatory safety protocols were adhered to at the factory. The administration has stated that necessary actions will be taken following the investigation report, and initial findings are already prompting action.
