Kolkata, June 30: An FIR has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen, and Baiswanar Chattopadhyay for allegedly causing traffic disruptions. The complaint was registered at the Hare Street police station on Monday.
According to police reports, the TMC leaders visited the central area of Kolkata, specifically in front of Victoria House at Esplanade, to inspect the site for their party’s Martyrs’ Day event scheduled for July 21.
During their visit, the gathering and activities led to significant traffic congestion during peak hours, causing considerable inconvenience to the public. This prompted the police to take action against the three leaders.
The FIR states that from 2:50 PM to 4:00 PM on June 28, the leaders obstructed the road, affecting traffic flow. The Hare Street police have issued notices to the leaders seeking their responses.
In response to the incident, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized the TMC, suggesting there are internal disagreements regarding the July 21 event. He noted that the party initially sought permission for a rally on Rani Rashmoni Road but later requested permission for a roadside gathering. Now, they are seeking approval for yet another new program.
Adhikari remarked that one faction of the party claims to be the “real TMC,” while another faction is attempting to distinguish itself.
Additionally, internal disputes within the TMC have emerged concerning the July 21 Martyrs’ Day event. One faction, led by Mamata Banerjee, is seeking permission from Kolkata police for the program at Esplanade, while another faction is also requesting permission for the same event.
This annual event commemorates the 13 individuals who lost their lives during a youth Congress protest in 1993, with former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressing the gathering.
