FIFA Suspends All Nepal Football Association Due to Third-Party Interference

Kathmandu, June 25: The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) effective immediately due to violations related to third-party interference.

This decision follows a long-standing dispute regarding the governance of Nepali football. Previously, Nepal’s National Sports Council had suspended ANFA for three months, but that decision was later revoked. FIFA stated that the Council’s Bureau decided to suspend ANFA under Article 14, Paragraph 1(i) and 3 of FIFA regulations concerning third-party interference.

According to FIFA’s circular, as of June 24, 2026, ANFA has lost all membership rights outlined in Article 13 of FIFA regulations until further notice. Consequently, ANFA representatives and club teams will not be able to participate in any international competitions until the suspension is lifted.

This suspension means that Nepal’s national teams and clubs cannot compete in any tournaments organized by FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Additionally, ANFA, its member organizations, and officials will not receive any financial support from FIFA or AFC.

FIFA has also clarified that during the suspension, ANFA and any of its members or officials are prohibited from participating in any FIFA or AFC development programs, courses, or training. All parties involved have been instructed to refrain from any sporting contact with ANFA or its teams while the suspension is in effect. FIFA further noted that the Bureau or FIFA Council could decide to lift the suspension at any time before the next FIFA Congress, and all relevant parties will be informed if that occurs.

According to Article 14 of FIFA regulations, actions can be taken for any breaches of responsibilities by member associations, even if third-party influence is involved. Each member association is fully responsible to FIFA for serious negligence or intentional misconduct by its members.
