Why the World Cup Play-off Stadium Final Has Limited Capacity
The Bosnian federation selected Bilino Polje in Zenica, which has a total capacity of 15,600. However, the upcoming match will see fewer fans in attendance due to a FIFA ruling from January.
FIFA reported multiple incidents during a recent home match for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Romania on November 15, 2025. As a result, the Bosnian federation received a fine and a warning, leading to the decision to reduce the stadium’s capacity for the next home match.
FIFA cited issues such as team misconduct, discrimination, and disturbances during national anthems as reasons for the ruling.
In a statement released in January, the Bosnian federation confirmed FIFA’s decision: “Due to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decision (No. FDD-26056) dated January 9, 2026, we must reduce the number of commercial tickets for the playoff in Zenica on March 31, 2026.”
The ruling mandates the closure of at least 20% of available seats, primarily behind the goals. Consequently, the South stand blocks B, C, and D will be fully closed, along with part of the West stand, totaling 2,100 seats unavailable for this crucial match.
Despite the reduced capacity, the Bosnian Federation announced that all tickets for the World Cup final against Italy sold out within hours after their penalty shootout victory over Wales in the semifinals.
