New Delhi, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian men’s cricket team has etched its name in history by becoming the first team to win 200 T20 matches. This milestone was achieved on September 22, 2026, during a match against host nation Japan at the Asian Games.
India secured its inaugural T20 victory on December 1, 2006, defeating South Africa by six wickets. The team reached its 50th win in 2017 against Sri Lanka, again winning by seven wickets in Colombo. The 100th win came in 2022 in Kolkata against the West Indies, where India triumphed by eight runs. Subsequently, India notched its 150th victory in 2024 against Australia by 24 runs, and now, the 200th win against Japan by just two runs.
To reach these milestones, the Indian team played a varying number of matches: 83 to secure 50 wins, 72 for the next 50, 70 to reach 150, and only 66 matches for the last 50 wins. This shows their remarkable efficiency in achieving the latest milestone with the fewest games played.
In the match against Japan, held at the Sano International Cricket Stadium, India won the toss and opted to bat first. However, rain disrupted the game, limiting it to just five overs per side. India managed to score 32 runs while losing four wickets, with captain Shreyas Iyer contributing the highest score of 16 runs.
Japan, chasing a target of 33 runs, fell short, scoring only 30 runs for the loss of three wickets in their five overs, resulting in a narrow two-run defeat. Shreyas Iyer was named Player of the Match for his efforts.
