
Goa, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC played to a thrilling 1-1 draw in their opening match of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season on Saturday night. The game took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.
Chennaiyin FC took the lead in the 64th minute when Irfan Yadav scored with a well-placed shot into the far corner. However, FC Goa equalized just 11 minutes later. Chiki’s header found the back of the net, ensuring that Goa secured a point in their first match of the season.
In the first half, both teams focused on building play from the back, attempting to penetrate the final third, but neither could find the net. The score remained 0-0 at halftime after a tightly contested opening period.
Chennaiyin FC broke the deadlock in the 64th minute. Yadav’s right-footed shot was precise, giving his team the advantage. The visitors continued to press for a second goal, with Raman Taki testing FC Goa’s defense with a powerful effort from a difficult angle.
FC Goa responded by increasing their pressure on Chennaiyin’s defense. They came close to leveling the score in the 70th minute when Raman unleashed a curling shot that hit the post. Udanta Singh also posed a threat, forcing the crossbar to shake with his attempt.
Finally, FC Goa found success in the 75th minute. After a foul on Udanta Singh in the attacking half, the “Gaurs” were awarded a free-kick. Chiki expertly directed the ball with his header into the bottom-right corner, leveling the match at 1-1.
The home side continued to press for a winner, with Chiki attempting another shot from inside the box in the 79th minute. Chennaiyin FC also posed a threat, as Raman aimed to score from a header following a cross, but he sent the ball over the crossbar despite the goalkeeper being out of position.
Both teams searched for a decisive goal in the closing moments, but neither could find the back of the net. In the second half, the hosts maintained their aggressive approach, earning four corners compared to Chennaiyin’s one.
