Faujia Khan Advocates for Womens Reservation Bill After Years of Struggle

New Delhi, April 6: Faujia Khan, leader of the NCP (SP) and former MP, emphasized the long-standing struggle for the Women’s Reservation Bill. She noted that when the bill was initially passed in Parliament, it received unanimous support from all political parties.

Khan pointed out that two conditions were set at that time: the need for delimitation and the implementation post-census. With elections in five states approaching, she criticized the lack of action to empower women. After three years of inaction, the government has now decided that the 2011 census will suffice, raising questions about why this formula wasn’t proposed earlier.

“If their intentions were genuine, why wasn’t this formula introduced before?” Khan questioned. She expressed skepticism about the government’s motives, especially with the upcoming parliamentary session.

Addressing the issue of increasing women’s representation, Khan stated that their struggle has been ongoing. She highlighted the problem of women’s names being used while men perform the actual roles, insisting that women should be allowed to work independently.

Khan also raised concerns about the limited time allocated for women to speak in Parliament. “How much time are women given to voice their opinions? This is a significant issue. Merely being present in Parliament without the right to speak is not enough. We need to be included in policy-making processes,” she asserted.
