New Delhi, June 10: Fahim Sinha has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This decision comes after Tamim Iqbal took over as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The BPL has faced serious allegations, including non-payment to players and officials, as well as fixing issues, prompting this leadership change.
The BCB confirmed on Tuesday that Fahim Sinha will replace Aminul Islam as the new chairman of the BPL. This decision was made during the first meeting of the newly elected Board of Directors, led by BCB President Tamim Iqbal. Fahim will serve as the chairman of the BPL Governing Council, while the previous organizer, Masuduzzaman, will continue as the member secretary of the tournament.
The BPL has been criticized for payment issues, and allegations of fixing have also emerged. The responsibility to address these concerns will fall on the new Governing Council. BCB President Tamim is expected to head the work and facilities committee and lead BCB cricket operations, similar to his role during his time as part of the ad-hoc committee.
Meanwhile, the BCB has accepted the resignation of Mir Shakruul Alam Simanto from the Board of Directors, who cited family commitments as the reason for his departure. Recently, former cricketer Tamim Iqbal was elected as the new president of the BCB.
Tamim will serve in this role for the next four years. He was elected unopposed during the elections held on Sunday. Notably, Tamim has been serving as the interim president since April. He is now the 21st president of the BCB and retired from international cricket in 2025. He has been out of the Bangladesh team for some time, with his last match played in 2023.
