From early morning, the streets of the capital were packed with people, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the Prime Minister’s visit. Residents from remote areas of Sikkim traveled long distances to be part of the event, transforming the roadshow into a massive gathering filled with cheers, music, and celebrations.
Bikash Basnet, the political secretary to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, expressed the palpable excitement, stating, “Everyone in Gangtok was thrilled. People began gathering early in the morning. We have been waiting for his arrival for almost a year. Residents from distant regions came to Gangtok, and every corner of the city was filled with people. It was a historic and proud moment for every citizen of Sikkim.”
The Prime Minister’s visit coincided with the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, enhancing the significance of the event.
Kunjang Gyatso, president of the Sikkim Sports Climbing Association and an Everest climber, shared his excitement, saying, “We are very excited because we have been waiting for him since last year, but he couldn’t come due to bad weather. However, he is here now, and we are very happy. I thank Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for inviting him to the golden jubilee celebrations.”
Former soldier Subedar Ranjit Khaling expressed his pride, stating, “We were so excited to see the Prime Minister that words cannot express it. Having such a prominent leader visit our small northeastern state is a moment of great pride for us. The Prime Minister should announce improvements in education and provide free electricity for 200 units, as the state has made significant progress in 50 years.”
Even after the roadshow concluded, the festive atmosphere in Gangtok continued. People danced and roamed the streets in groups, fully immersed in the celebratory mood. The city resembled a fair, where both locals and tourists shared in the excitement.
