Lucknow, August 26: The atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh is vibrant as the festival of Barawafat, also known as Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, approaches. A historic procession, ‘Juloos-e-Madh-e-Sahaba’, will take place in Lucknow on Wednesday, while the police have implemented strict security measures in Varanasi for the traditional parade.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, Chairman of the Islamic Center in Lucknow, has made a special appeal regarding the procession. He stated, “On this occasion of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the historic ‘Juloos-e-Madh-e-Sahaba’ will commence from Ameer-ud-Daula Park in Aminabad. The Islamic Center of India has issued an advisory urging all Muslims to participate in large numbers and peacefully. It is essential to adhere to all rules, laws, and guidelines. No slogans should be raised that could hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.”
Lucknow police have also provided updates on the security arrangements. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamlesh Dixit mentioned, “You can see that celebrations have been ongoing since Tuesday night. The event continued late into the night, during which our police personnel were deployed to ensure its success. Following this, a large number of people are expected to participate in ‘Juloos-e-Mohammadi’ on Wednesday. Comprehensive security measures are in place, with our teams, including civil police and PAC personnel, actively engaged.”
In Varanasi, the administration is also on high alert for Barawafat. The police have increased security and deployed additional forces in sensitive and crowded areas. The procession will travel from Rewri Talab to Beniyabag. Authorities are monitoring routes and traffic, urging the public to cooperate for a peaceful event.
Imam Saud Alam Mukhtari from Varanasi emphasized the significance of this day, stating, “I would say that, MashaAllah, Barawafat or Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is a very important occasion for us Muslims. It can be referred to as ‘Eid-e-Eid’ (the Eid of Eid). It conveys a message of humanity and peace. It teaches people how to live as humans, care for their neighbors, and maintain peace.”
Varanasi’s ACP Gaurav Kumar discussed the traffic and security plans, saying, “This is the traditional Barawafat procession, starting from Rewri Talab and heading towards Beniyabag, where a welcome ceremony will take place. We have made arrangements for this. Barricades have been set up at every intersection to stop unauthorized vehicles. Only those with permission will be allowed to pass.”
