Indias Gem and Jewelry Exports Surge by 9.43% in September

Indias gem and jewelry exports rose to $2.95 billion in September, reflecting a 9.43% increase from the previous year.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : India’s gem and jewelry exports saw a significant increase in September, rising by 9.43% to reach $2.95 billion, compared to $2.69 billion during the same month last year. This information was disclosed in a report released on Thursday.

According to the Kama Jewelry report, total exports from April to September 2026 grew by 3.07%, totaling $14.30 billion, up from $13.87 billion in the same period last year.

In the first half of the fiscal year, gross imports also increased by 5.29% year-on-year, reaching $11.04 billion. In September alone, imports surged by 25.48% to $2.07 billion.

The report highlighted that this improvement is a positive sign for the Indian gem and jewelry sector, which has been grappling with global economic challenges for an extended period.

Furthermore, the increase in both exports and imports of gems and jewelry is attributed to domestic demand during the festival season and the upcoming global holiday season.

While the export value of diamonds has decreased, the quantity exported has risen. This indicates a drop in price per carat rather than a decline in actual demand for diamonds.

The rise in imports of rough diamonds underscores India’s status as the largest diamond processing center, with expectations for this trend to continue.

The performance of plain gold jewelry has been affected by high gold prices, whereas exports of studded gold jewelry have seen remarkable growth. This trend reflects buyers’ ongoing preference for design-based and value-added studded jewelry.

Looking ahead, the report suggests that business momentum is likely to accelerate further, especially considering the festive and wedding seasons, with growth expected in at least the current quarter.
