Samson Highlights Bumrahs Unmatched Impact in T20 Series Against West Indies

Sanju Samson emphasizes the irreplaceable role of Jasprit Bumrah in Indias T20 series against West Indies, despite emerging talents.

Hyderabad, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has asserted that there is no substitute for Jasprit Bumrah, especially during the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies. The Indian bowling attack has faced challenges in Bumrah’s absence, as he was rested following his participation in the 2026 Asian Games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is managing his workload, recognizing him as a key fast bowler for the team.

After India’s 24-run defeat in the fourth T20 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Samson reflected on Bumrah’s unique contributions. He stated, “There is no replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. He is one of the finest bowlers of his generation, and we are fortunate to have him in our team. However, we also have some very talented newcomers.”

Samson praised the performances of young bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Prince Yadav, who have shown promise in recent matches. “Arshdeep has been doing well, and Prince’s bowling has been impressive too. The more opportunities we give them, the better they will become,” he added.

During the match, Arshdeep sustained an injury to his left hand while batting. Samson expressed optimism that he would recover in time for the fifth T20 International match scheduled for Saturday, saying, “Arshdeep is icing his shoulder. We hope he will be fine soon.”

Samson also acknowledged the remarkable form of West Indies captain Shai Hope, who has scored two centuries and a half-century in the four T20 matches against India. “He is playing exceptionally well. We must respect his performance. He plays great cricketing shots and respects the bowlers as well,” Samson noted.

Addressing his team’s top order, Samson defended Abhishek Sharma, who struggled in the fourth match with 29 runs off 24 balls. “Ishaan (Kishan) and Abhishek Sharma are among the best top two batsmen in the world. A poor match can happen. Abhishek scored a brilliant 69 in the previous game, and Ishaan has been consistent, so it’s perfectly fine for them to have an off day,” he remarked.

Samson identified the turning point of the match as the dismissal of Tilak Varma in the 17th over. “We were in a strong position with Tilak and Nitish Reddy at the crease. The turning point was Tilak getting out. We were scoring 10-12 runs per over comfortably, and both were batting well under pressure. Until that point, I felt we were in a good position to chase the target,” he explained.

Overall, Samson’s insights reflect both the challenges and the potential of the Indian cricket team as they navigate the series without their star bowler.
